Common Misconceptions About Astrology (That I Hear All the Time)
Over the years, I’ve read charts for CEOs, teachers, designers, doctors, newlyweds, divorcees, students, and even sceptical engineers who only booked because their wife insisted.
And no matter who’s sitting across from me – one thing is almost always true:
They carry at least one major misconception about astrology.
So in this post, I’m going to walk you through the most common myths I hear – and how I actually work as an astrologer.
Spoiler: no, I can’t tell you the winning lottery numbers.
1. “Astrology is just about zodiac signs, right?”
Nope. Not even close.
Your sun sign (what most people call their “zodiac sign”) is just one tiny part of your chart. Real astrology looks at:
All 9 planets
12 houses
12 signs
27 nakshatras
Your Lagna (Ascendant)
Your Dasha (planetary timing system)
It’s like confusing the title of a book with the entire story.
Your sun sign tells me a little about you. But your birth chart – your janam kundli – is what tells the full tale.
I once had a client who said, “But I’m a Gemini, and I’m not chatty.” She turned out to have a Scorpio Moon and Saturn in the 3rd house – very private energy. That one line explained years of confusion she had about herself.

2. “You can predict exactly what will happen to me, right?”
No. That’s not how this works.
Astrology doesn’t give certainties. It gives patterns. Cycles. Probabilities. Think of it as a weather forecast for your inner and outer life:
“This is a time when relationships may be tested.”
“This is a phase of growth, but with some emotional ups and downs.”
It’s not “You will get married next March at 4:32 pm.” That kind of overconfidence is not just misleading – it’s harmful.
I’ve had people ask, “Can you tell me the exact date I’ll get a promotion?” – and I always say, I can show you the window. Whether you walk through it depends on you.

3. “If my chart is bad, I’m doomed.”
Absolutely not.
Every chart has challenges. And every chart has strengths.
A so-called “bad chart” usually means:
You’ve got some karmic work to do in this lifetime
You might take longer to find stability
Your growth curve might be steeper
But none of that means you’re doomed. I’ve seen charts with difficult Saturn placements go on to become wise, powerful leaders. I’ve seen heavy 7th houses result in deeply fulfilling second marriages.
One client of mine had a debilitated Moon – often associated with emotional turmoil. But she had also developed a deep mindfulness practice, became a coach, and now helps others navigate grief. She embodied that placement.
The chart doesn’t decide your fate. It shows your terrain. You choose how you walk it.
4. “So you’ll tell me when I’ll die?”
No. And I won’t even try.
Any astrologer who claims to know your exact death date – run.
We don’t look at death in that way. Yes, there are sensitive points in the chart. Times of caution. But I never – never – try to scare anyone.
Astrology is here to help you live more clearly. Not fearfully.
5. “You’ll ask me lots of questions and just say general things.”
I get this a lot, especially from people who’ve had a disappointing “reading” before.
Here’s the truth: a real astrologer doesn’t need to ask too many questions. Once I have your birth details (date, time, place), I spend time studying your chart – in silence.
By the time we speak, I already have a sense of:
Your core patterns
What you’re struggling with
What phase you’re currently in
One client told me after her session: “You said things I haven’t said out loud to anyone.” That’s the difference between a script and a real reading.
The session isn’t vague. It’s personal, precise, and very often emotional.

6. “Isn’t it all superstition?”
Not the way I practise.
I don’t ask you to wear 5 rings, feed crows every Tuesday, or spend thousands on gemstones.
Vedic astrology is a deeply logical and time-tested system. But unfortunately, many people have only seen the fear-based, commercialised version of it.
With me, there’s no magic tricks. Just honest, grounded insight.
I often explain things like Saturn transits or Dasha changes in plain English. Clients usually say, “Why has no one ever explained it like this before?”

7. “But I don’t believe in astrology.”
That’s okay. You don’t need to believe in it for it to reflect something meaningful.
Your chart is just a snapshot of the sky the moment you were born. And that sky moves with you, whether you believe it or not.
Even sceptics walk away from my sessions saying, “Wait… how did you know that?”
8. “Isn’t astrology just for women or old people?”
Absolutely not.
I’ve read charts for men in their 20s confused about career, couples exploring IVF timelines, and women in their 60s wondering if they should relocate.
Astrology isn’t gendered. It’s human. And it meets you where you are – whatever your phase of life.
A Few More I Hear Often:
“I’m a Leo, so I must be loud.”
“My partner is Manglik. So we can’t marry.”
“My guna score is low. It won’t work.”
“This Mercury retrograde will ruin everything.”
There’s nuance to all of these. For example:
Being Manglik doesn’t mean doom. We look at how Mars is placed – not just whether it’s there.
Guna matching is just one lens – not a full compatibility reading.
Mercury retrograde is real – but it’s not a curse. It’s a time to slow down, not panic.

Why These Myths Persist
Honestly? Because pop culture astrology is everywhere. Instagram memes, dramatic YouTube videos, generic app predictions – they paint a distorted picture.
Most people have never had a proper reading. Or if they did, it was formulaic or fear-based. No wonder they come in with resistance or confusion.
That’s why I write blogs like these – to clear the air and reset expectations.

What I Wish More People Knew
Astrology isn’t fatalistic. It’s not about “good charts” or “bad charts.”
It’s about:
Understanding your wiring
Seeing your cycles
Making more conscious choices
Navigating difficult times with less fear
