What Happens in an Astrology Consultation? – A Step-by-Step Walkthrough

One of the most common questions I get, especially from first-time clients, is: “What actually happens in an astrology consultation?”

Some people imagine a dramatic prediction session. Others think I’ll be reading out some fixed report. And a few are just curious – is it like therapy? Is it a conversation? Will I have to ask questions, or will you just tell me everything?

So let me walk you through it – how I personally conduct consultations, what I do before we speak, what I look for in your chart, and what you can expect from our time together.

If you’ve never had a proper Vedic astrology consultation before, I also recommend reading What Is a Birth Chart and Why Does It Matter? – it’ll give you useful context before we begin.

Step 1: You Share Your Details

Before we even speak, I ask for three key things:

  • Your date of birth

  • Your exact time of birth (as accurate as possible)

  • Your place of birth

These three inputs are non-negotiable in Vedic astrology. They help me generate your janam kundli (birth chart) – a precise map of the sky at the moment you were born.

If your birth time is uncertain, I may ask for major life events (like marriage, education milestones, career changes) and do what’s called birth time rectification – adjusting the time to match your timeline.

These details not only determine your Lagna but also affect your Dasha system – the planetary periods that guide your life’s timing. (Read more in What Is Dasha in Astrology?) A difference of just 10 minutes can shift house positions or even your Moon sign, which changes the tone and focus of the reading.

Step 2: I Study Your Chart in Advance

Once I have your details, I block time to study your chart before our call. This is where most of the work happens.

I look at:

  • Your Ascendant (Lagna) and Moon sign

  • The strength and placement of key planets (like Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus)

  • The condition of the 1st, 7th, 10th, 4th, and 11th houses (based on what you’re asking about)

  • Your Dasha (planetary period) – this tells me what phase of life you’re in

  • Transits (Gochar) that might be affecting you now

  • Yogas (planetary combinations) that show talent, struggle, or major karmic themes

I also check if there are significant planetary influences like:

  • Saturn on your Moon (Sade Sati or Dhaiya)

  • Rahu-Ketu axis impact

  • Combust or retrograde planets

  • Gajakesari, Budhaditya, or Dhan yogas

Depending on what you want to discuss, I focus on those areas more deeply – career, relationships, marriage, health, finances, or something else.

If I see certain patterns clearly (like a tough Saturn period, or a Venus-Rahu dynamic), I make a note to explain it simply and clearly.

Step 3: The Consultation Call

This is not a monologue.

We get on a phone or video call, and I walk you through what I see. I usually start with what’s active in your chart right now, then move into specific questions or areas you’re curious about.

Typical things we talk about:

  • Why you might be feeling stuck

  • What phase of life you’re currently in (Dasha)

  • Emotional or relationship patterns in the chart

  • Career timing, direction, or blocks

  • Marriage or compatibility issues

  • Recurring themes or habits

  • When to push forward and when to slow down

If you’ve read Can Astrology Predict Your Career Path?, you’ll know I don’t give formulaic answers. I go case by case.

You’re welcome to ask questions. In fact, I encourage it. It’s your session. I’m just here to help you see things more clearly.

Many clients find this conversation empowering. It’s not about telling you what will happen – it’s about helping you understand what’s likely, what needs attention, and what timing works best.

Curious about what your own chart might say? You don’t have to wait.

What You Won’t Get

Let me clarify a few things:

  • I don’t give pre-written reports or PDFs. Everything is discussed live.

  • I won’t make you wear a gemstone or do a ritual unless your chart clearly needs a correction – and even then, I’ll explain why.

  • I won’t tell you that your life is doomed because of one planet. That’s just not how I work.

  • I don’t scare people. There is no benefit to fear-based astrology.

Common Questions People Ask

“Can you tell me when I’ll get married?”
Yes – I can tell you when the timing looks strong, and what the chart says about your marriage prospects. But I’ll also tell you what internal work might need to happen before that. (Also read: Why Is My Marriage Delayed?)

“Is this a good time to change careers?”
We’ll look at your Dasha and transits to see what kind of energies are active. Sometimes, your chart supports bold moves. Sometimes, it’s better to wait.

“I feel blocked. Nothing’s moving. Why?”
This is a big one. Often, I find people going through Ketu or Saturn periods – where clarity is low and progress feels slow. Knowing the phase can help you stop blaming yourself.

“Do you see any health issues?”
If health is a concern, I look at the 6th house and any ongoing transits. But I always clarify: astrology is not a substitute for medical advice. It can support your awareness, not replace a doctor.

“Will this difficult time end?”
I get this a lot too. And yes, all Dashas pass. Transits shift. I help you see where the light might return, and what you can do to prepare for it.

What You’ll Walk Away With

By the end of our session, most people tell me they feel:

  • Calmer, because they understand why certain things are happening

  • Clearer, because they know what timing looks better

  • Seen, because I talk about patterns they’ve felt but couldn’t explain

  • Grounded, because the advice isn’t scary or superstitious

You’ll also often have a better idea of what kind of decisions to make and when. Astrology doesn’t take away your choices – it gives you better context for them.

I don’t promise quick fixes. But I do promise honesty, insight, and real attention. I’d be happy to take a look at your chart.
